Mate, Mustaches' and Money Mistakes

Hola!

I found a picture of Elder Gutierrez
This was the first week with my new companion, Elder Gutierrez. He´s super awesome. We forgot to take a picture together so I dont think there is one of him, but we´ll get one next week. We kind of just walked around all week because for some reason everyone and their mother left Paniahue. Its ok. We only had three lessons this week in our sector so our numbers were an all time low, but that´s ok because this week´s goals are awesome and are going to change the sector forever. We are working with an investigator named Carmen and we are trying to help her quit smoking. She´s been smoking for about 40 years, since she was 15, so its a little hard for her, but she´s really trying and is going to get baptized, hopefully this next month. She´s really the only person we were able to visit this week. We also had to go to Rancagua...again. This time it was for divisions with the assistants. That went pretty well. They made a super mistake and accidentally paid the equivalent of $40.00 for two pizzas. Needless to say, I don´t have any money, but somehow I managed to pay half of my part in small coins. We kind of walked around the whole time that day, too. In reality, this week was really slow. Then on Sunday, we had 4 set appointments fall through and we had an all time low of 14 people (including us) at church on Sunday. Our Sunday School class only missed two people from the Sacrament Meeting, which were the Primary and her Teacher. Our Priesthood meeting had 5 people - us and the Branch Presidency. Overall it was kindof a weird week, but it was still good. We get to Skype in a few more weeks and I am super stoked. I don´t know what time, but we will figure it out soon. I love you all and will see you all soonish!

I almost fell in

Bones, Temblores and Sunsets

And then I converted back
 to my undomesticated state...
I found this bone in the back woods of Paniahue
when we were walking to a lesson...
Hola!!!

Wow this change is FINALLY over. It was kind of long. I`d say the worst part was the fact that my companion was going home and so he was always talking about it and thinking about it which made me think about home way too much for my own good. That ,and with Madi getting married, I thought about home a lot. Glad that`s all over with. I am officially getting a new companion tomorrow. His name is Elder Gutierrez. He`s from Mexico. This is going to be his fourth Change and my sixth so I`m really excited. We`re going to work super hard and get some stuff done this change. I`ve set goals already for 5 baptisms. I already know Elder Gutierrez from when I was in Rancagua. I was in Cachapoal and he was in Requinoa. We were in the same district and when we went on divisions together we worked really well, so I`m excited.
Elder Barboza is going back to Spain. He finished the mission and now he`s done. I don`t think he liked me very much. That`s ok. I didn`t come to the mission just to make friends. We worked hard and worked well together despite our differences and now its back to our lives as they were. We taught one of our investigators the Word of Wisdom this week. She`s been addicted to smoking since she was 15 and should have died (according to the doctors) last August, but she`s still fine so now we have the chance to work with her. I think its going to be a struggle, but its all going to be worth it.
I heard there was an earthquake here the other day. They said it was in the 5`s. There are two types of earthquakes here. There are Temblores and there are Terremotos. That was a Temblor. What may be an earthquake in the States they don`t even consider an earthquake down here. Just that the earth...quaked...a little bit. But don`t worry, everything is fine down here, I didn`t even feel it (I`m practically Chileno). That`s about everything that went down this week.
For some reason they haven`t given us our Reajuste (extra money that they give us because we spend so much on transportation) so I might have to spend personal money on my food this week and next week. Sorry. I guess the gift that I`m trying to do is just going to have to wait.

I love you guys and we are going to Skype on the 8th so be ready because I am super excited, especially after thinking about my family every day for the past six weeks. I love you guys and will see you all soon!

I was feeling artistic when I went to Rancagua. I swear this is Chile and not Texas.

Busy Week

Hola!

Wow this week was crazyyyyyy! I only had like three days in Paniahue hahaha. On Monday it was PDay so we only did a few things afterward because we didn´t have a ton of time, on Tuesday we worked all day, on Wednesday I was in a sector called Nancagua on exchanges, Thursday I went to Rancagua early in the day, Friday we were in Rancagua all day, Saturday we went to a baptism, taught english, and played soccer, and then Sunday we had a family home evening kind of lesson that took all the afternoon after we did weekly planning. This week was packed, just not with anything super cool.
Its crazy to think that Madi is married now...ps mom will you send me another wedding invite thing in my package because the one that I have here got destroyed in my bag and I want a nice one :) The pictures turned out super well, too.
We aren´t going to baptize anybody this change, but we should be able to get some the next one. We have a couple people that are preparing really well. Elder Barboza is going home in ten days (I keep the countdown just to remind him) and he is soooooo dead. He said that I´m going to have to drag him around for the next week, but I´m going to work him so hard that he won´t have time to get dragged around. I´m going to tell you now that I´m not going to send pictures today. I´m sorry, but we have a Noche de Hogar tonight and we have to show Meet the Mormons, but don't have it so its downloading right now. Since our time is limited, I´m trying not to do too much so that it downloads quickly. It was nice to go back to Rancagua. I love that place. We didn´t go and visit anybody because we didn´t have a lot of time, but we did walk around a little bit and it was fun to see the place again. I think that today or next week I´m going to buy some stuff to send home. I finally decided on what I can get you guys and its going to be awesome. It might cost a little bit of money though, I have to see what I can get. The work is going well here. I have a haunting feeling that I´m going to train this next change and that I might be District Leader. That will be interesting if it actually happens. I love you guys. We get to Skype on the 8th of May I think. That is going to be awesome. I love you guys and will see you soon!

Love,

Elder Sayler

PS sorry for the short email

Paniahue: 6 Investigators

Hola!

Wow was this week a good one. I had one of the best conference experiences this week than I have ever had in my life. Even though I had to watch all of the Sunday sessions in spanish. I loved all of the talks. Elder Holland was so powerful! Well, it was probably a little more powerful in english, but I could see based on his face and actions his true conviction. Elder Eyring also did a super good job. An even greater blessing was that for the first time this change, we actually had investigators in the church! It only took four weeks, but we had six investigators that went to see the prophet talk and it was super great. I love to see how they felt the spirit and want to be part of this great work on the earth. The highlight of my week was definitely General Conference. This was also my SECOND GENERAL CONFERENCE which means that I have definitely been in Chile for more than six months. All the missionaries say, ´How time flies bye in the mission´ but it still kind of thinking that the mission is the same speed as back at home. We haven´t had a ton of success here in Paniahue (still), but things are really picking up. Elder Barboza randomely opened the Book of Mormon and found a scripture that changed his whole outlook on the mission. Hmmmm what else... we saw an Aston Martin Rapide in the Centro de Santa Cruz the other day, which was a little weird because its like a little farming town in Chile why is there an Aston Martin...? I guess it was just a blessing for me. I saw a trailor for The Jungle Book with live people and computer animation the other day that looked really good. Maybe Elder Barboza and I will go see it... jajaja, jk. We had a couple good lessons this week. Its really hard to baptize down here because nobody can get married right on the first try. They get married and then a divorce takes about three years, so they just separate and live with some other person that they call their husband/wife, but really have no legal rights to them whatsoever. We have one investigator that is in this situation and wants to get baptized. This week we helped her realize the blessings of baptism and she told us that she is going to start working on her divorce so that she can get baptized. That was a blessing, too. Changes are coming up in two weeks and I´m getting excited to see what´s going to happen. I have a funny feeling that I´m going to get to train a new missionary here in Paniahue. That would be awesome. Mother´s day is coming up, too! I´m going to get to see you guys soon! I´ve decided on what I can send home in my package, so you can expect to see some random stuff bought on my personal card this week or this month. I love you guys and can´t wait to see you all! Have a great week!
Love,

Siguelo.mormon.org

Hola!

Our zone at the Lagoon in Chépica
Wow this week was pretty good! I´ve been working really hard lately and it looks like its actually paying off! We had more success this week than in the past 3! We finally got a few baptism dates set. We actually set three this week! Two of them fell through because they didn´t go to church, but we will re-set them and then we´ll be ready for some more baptisms. This week was the Semana Santa - The Holy Week. I´ve shared that Easter video from the church so many times I can quote it in spanish. If you don´t know what I´m talking about, the spanish link is siguelo.mormon.org and I´m sure if its the same in english its followit.mormon.org. The video is super good and it brings the spirit a ton. The people here take the Semana Santa very seriously, even though very few actually go to church. They take it seriously in the meaning that they just want to party all the time and don´t have any time for the missionaries. Its ok. The ones that do have time for the missionaries are the ones who are going to get closer to God and Jesus Christ. I´ve done a lot of studies these past few weeks and I´ve found that I love to read the bible. I read the Book of Mormon a lot, too, but I can´t get enough of the bible. Its a big difference between me and my companion. He doesn´t even carry his bible when we go out to do work. Its ok though. I make sure that I study the bible and the Book of Mormon every day because they both testify of Jesus Christ in a big way. I use colored pencils and all of my scriptures are color-coded for finding scriptures and whenever people see my scriptures they just think that I´m coloring in them. Really I just love to read and there are a ton of verses that call out to me for one reason or another. I have received a ton of strength and knowledge from my studies that helps me every day in the work and with my life. I love the topic of grace. It really is amazing how much our Saviour has done for us. Man still can´t comprehend all that Christ does, but every day I learn a little bit more about it and it blows my mind. I truly am very indebted to the Lord. It helps repenting of my sins every day. Today we went to some lagoon in a place called Chépica. It was beautiful and I will send some photos. Elder Barboza and I don´t take very many photos. Oh well, we have a few. Well, this week was pretty darn good. A few days were hard, a few days were super easy, but every day was a spiritual experience and one step further to becoming a consegrated missionary. I love you all and will see you in a month or so for Mother´s day.

Love,

Elder Sayler

Almost everyone did it...
